Garden Adoption Program
CBLD provides landscape services pro-bono for several schools and non-profit organizations. The two volunteer projects highlighted here include Canyon Elementary School in Santa Monica, CA and the Marquez Family Cemetery managed by the La Senora Institute, a non-profit organization.
Canyon Elementary School
Parents, teachers, and staff of the elementary school wanted their campus to look nicer and provide a better learning environment for the students. So, CBLD helped organize, design, and install a new sports field, a large central flagstone patio, as well as kindergarten play area and we even helped fix the irrigation system.

Marquez Family Cemetery
The Marquez Family Cemetery is the first Spanish colonial cemetery established in the Santa Monica area back in 18 . It is estimated the remains of 27 members of the Marquez family are buried there. The Marquez’s were given the original Spanish land grant for the area that extends from the city of Santa Monica all the way to Calabasas, CA in the northeast. The cemetery was being held by Ernie Marquez, the eldest remaining descendent of the Marquez family, and it was falling into disrepair and was also threatened by possible development. La Senora Institute organized an effort to protect and preserve the cemetery with a long range plan of opening it up as privately-held public park and historic educational site. CBLD is assisting Ernie Marquez and La Senora Institute with all the landscape design and management services for the cemetery.
